Model 70

I just purchased my first Model 70. I'm really impressed! I am thinking about another one in a synthetic stock for heavy woods and brush. I like the pre 64 bolt. Can anyone tell me what Serial # is the break on the action. Where does the new/old style start. I was told they started in 94 making the pre64 design again. Any help appreciated. Where did the pre-64s serials stop at. or a web sight that gives me the Numbers. Thanks

    Picked up a Winchester MOdel 70 today. Something to maybe shoot some varmints. Anyway was wondering about a DOM, serial number# G1130xx It also says 375 H&H Mag, super express.

    Any help is greatly appreciated

    Kindly recheck the SN. According to the BB the G prefix 70's started in 1969 at G941900.

    A 375 H & H to shoot varmints? Where the h**l do you come from, Jurassic Park?

    While on this topic.. suggestions on sigts??? LER?? Scout type or try to find the original express rear sight? Opinions

    C'mon didn't you ever see "in search of the holy grail" that was one evil bunnie. I think a quick handling heavy caliber might just do the trick.
    I just got on going on a bolt action thing around christmas. Friends know that I buy guns so they tend to steer folks my direction. Some my wife buys for me (she is awesome[:D] ) Some I get for her.
    I had some 375 ammo and dies etc. So it seemed like divine intervention.
    It really doesn't kick as much as that 300 ultra mag. We don't have any halfalump problems so they must be working!!
    I can't get a squirrel to show himself at all around here anymore and the crows fly off if I even move inside the house.

    I have always felt the 375 H&H was an adequate varmint cartridge.

    If it were me, I would find an original rear sight replacement and either go with just that, or mount a nice 2-7 or even smaller power scope on as well.

    BTW, that is a really nice rifle you picked up. [8D]

    Looks like it's the "Classic" action made from late 90s til 2004 I think. Those bring a bit of a premium over the push feed Safari Express. I have one in .458. It's a very efficient varmint rifle too. It'll dig em right out of the ground if you need it to.

    If I scope mine it'll probably a VX3 1.5-5 X 20mm in Talley QD rings.
