Rolling Block Pistol

Could this be a Remington 1901 rolling block pistol? The only markings are 6 lines of patent data on the left hand side. It is a 22 rimfire with a case hardened frame and blued barrel.dscn0205x.jpgdscn0207y.jpg

    [?]I recently acquired a pistol that I am trying to correctly identify. It is a single shot RRB with a 10" barrell, but less than half the length is octagonal. The top of the barrell is lightly stamped with "REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION NY". The bottom of the barrell has "32 S&W". Also on the bottom of the barrell, but underneath the non checkered forearm grip is "63".The left, front side of the receiver has six short lines that appear to have months and dates. I can read a few items. they are "DEC" twice, "JUNE" once but the others I cannot read.There is a trigger guard, the barrell is rifled, and the grip is not checkered. There are no other visible markings that I can identify on the wood or metal. My limited research found pictures like an an 1891 Remington target pistol. Either that or a nice reproduction! Is this an appropriate website to inquire about this and gather more info to identify this as original or reproduction? If requested, I'll be glad to post pictures. Thanks for your time and input.     It looks like one and a nice one at that. However, it should also be marked on top of the barrel: "REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION, N.Y."

    Spider thank you for your reply, I can find no evidence that there were ever any markings on the barrel even under magnification. The front sight is marked "Lyman Patent".

    Well, it may have been professionally restored based on its condition and the markings got removed in the process. Still, that's a rare gun: Less than 800 were ever made and was the last rolling block pistol ever made by Remington.

    It appears to be the earlier 1891 model, which has the rear sight on barrel. The 1901 model has rear sight mortised into top of frame.

    But you need to check with the Remington Collectors' Society on this one, as it has a longer than standard barrel with integral front sight base, and a fancier grip with a metal bottom!
