This is the info on this gun:Winchester Md.97 1.s.n. 648095 E 2.Field 3.16ga.4.28in.5.Full 6.semi-PG 7.Composition 8.dont know 9.Take Down 10.doesnt apply I think i got everything,but the slide bar marking type,i dont understand this. Bill

  Your Model 1897 is a March 1917 vintage gun. The slide bar marking should be the E-series type 1 that looks like this;

  Bert, The sliding bar on this gun doesnt have anything on it.On the barrel it says Md.97- Winchester 16 GA.,TRADE MARK ,below that.Also it is a Mod.,we thought it was full,but we was wrong. Bill

  Bad news... the barrel and slide-bar are not original to the gun. Take the gun apart and check the date stamped on the bottom of the barrel.
