M40 Luftwaffe Value Please
German WW2 SD Luftwaffe M40 helmet, with rare maker.
Nice example of a German WW2 M40 SD Luftwaffe helmet, The maker on this is HKP which is a later
war SE, however HKP made many M42 models so it is hard to find a M40 version. This example shows
good honest combat use, the paint is about 80% as is the decal. This comes with a liner and has been
in there forever, It looks as it has some collector repairs to the fingers but looks good. A good honest
example of a SD M40 Luftwaffe helmet with an unusual maker mark to find in an M40.

What do you guys think this is worth?
Thanks guys

I would pay $250 to $300.I dont worry to much about the maker. 0 -
A friend of mine bought a M40 just before Christmas from a Lady that belongs to a Club that my wife is associated with...
HKP
Sachsische Emaillier-und Stanzwerke

I believe it was sold for $20.00...Sounds as tho My Buddy got a good deal.0 -
A good friend of mine collects and sells WW2 uniforms, militaria and helmets. I saw him sell a "genuine" Luftwaffe helmet for $800 (he had it marked $1000) - it was in slightly better condition than the one posted. He said the Luftwaffe helmets generate more collector interest because they are scarce. I don't know the maker or the model, I'm not into them - but I do know they can be worth a lot of bucks. There's a lot of "relic" pieces coming into the US from Russia and former Soviet client states - finding and digging these things up from former battle sites it a big business over there - they need hard cash. 0 -
Can any of you experts validate that the decals isn't a repo? 0 -
The decal looks correct and is spot on for a series 40 helmet. The earlier variations like the series 35 had a "fatter" eagle with smaller, but more numerous feathers and what is often called the snake leg, which shows lines. The legs on the later eagles were smooth and unlined.
I am not an expert on any subject, but I have seen these types of helmets many times before and it looks right to me.0 -
It's right looking and the decal looks correct. I sold one for $500 a year or two ago, but whatever the market will bear is what it's worth.
You might want to invest in a chinstrap.0 -

We could find lots of Luft and Army helmets around here. The SS ,Africa corps and Navy were the harder ones to find around here. Its a good helmet, not a great helmet. 0 -
Ruckin69....I have several of these Luft helmets and your decal looks like the real deal. You are missing some of the helmets innards so it is not complete and looks in just a bit above average condition. the market is down now so I would not sell it at this time unless I had to for financial reasons. Value? If it was mine, and I had to sell now, we would start the discussion at $300 or so but I would wait a year or two until the market gets better to sell. Good luck[^] 0
