crossman arms company air gun bb antique

found a really old bb gun . says crossman arms company Rochester new york. It has a very old site system. never seen any of these. original owner was born 1898 and left to his grand son. Would like to find some info. and value. It still works great. any help greatly appreciated!

    It should be Crosman (one "s") rather than Crossman. In any event, you didn't give very much information. You didn't even say if it's a rifle or pistol. Crosman was founded in 1923 so it can't be any older than that.

    Living here in Rochester, I've seen and owned a bunch of crosman guns.
    I still have my father's 1930s vintage 101 .22 rifle and a new Quest.

    It is an air pump rifle, It is spelled Crossman, I looked at it several times to make sure. The air pump tube is made of brass and the receiver is cast aluminum. I will try to get a descent picture of it.It has the old style peep hole sight on the rear. Serial # D6348 is stamped on the air pump arm. It is a single load pellet, I have found no way to load bb's in it. You pull the bolt back and load a pellet , close the bolt pump it and then pull a round hammer under the bolt back to cock. no safety. I will post pics soon.

    It sounds like a model 100 if in .177 or a 101 if in .22.
    No model numbers were stamped on either one. Is the fore end wood or hard rubber?

    If it's Crossman, I can't find any record of a company with that spelling unless it's a misprint.

    EDIT: Please show closeups of the company markings. I can't imagine any company misspelling its own name but, if it is in fact "Crossman" rather than "Crosman", further research will be needed.

    Well, your rifle says "CROSSMAN", but your description sounds like a CROSMAN 101:

    NAILED IT !! THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT IT IS!! MINE HAS A WOOD FOREARM. DID CROSSMAN MIS-SPELL THEIR OWN NAME IN THE STAMPING OR WAS IT ANOTHER COMPANY? MINE IS STILL PAINTED BLACK, BUT COULD TELL FROM THE WEAR MARKS THAT IT WAS BRASS. WHAT YEAR WERE THEY PRODUCED? WHATS THERE VALUE? LOOKED INTO THE CALIBER, TRIED .177 IN IT AND THEY TUMBLE DOWN THE BARREL, SO IT HAS TO BE THE 101 MODEL.

    I still think if you look at that name closely with a magnifying glass, you'll only see one "S".

    yes it is spelled crosman, I believe it is in the 1924-1925 range!!
