Few questions on an older Remington 700.

Good afternoon,

Ive had this Remington 700 .270 with a monte carlo stock and I believe its a cdl model for a few years. Unfortunately I dont know much about this firearm besides its pretty damn good at dropping hogs and deer and shoots better than I can.

Is this indeed a cdl model?

What kind of wood is used? Laminate? Walnut?

The barrel is stamped Q 83 I take this to imply the firearm was produced in 1983?

How common was the Monte carlo stock and trap door style magazine during this time period?

What were the barrel lengths offered to buyers back then?

    Looks like a BDL to me. Wood is Walnut. Look for a 2 letter code for the date code. The 83 is not the year made. Barrel lengths were typically 22 inches for the .270 caliber. MonteCarlo and cheekpiece were very common. Value is about $450 without a scope.
    The letter Q represents dates of 1978 and 1996. I think your rifle might have been a 1996 model.

    I think what you have there is a very nice looking 1978 BDL. Q is for 1978 not sure what 83 is for. There is an incomplete stamp left of the Q that would designate what month but can't read it. Standard configuration and stock for a BDL.

    Were there ever iron sights on it?

    I dont believe there were ever any iron sights on it, but Ive only owned it for 4 years. I am looking to sell it in the future, got a few hunting rifles but no handguns.

    I agree with the above posters that you have a BDL. But, not to worry, I also think the BDL was about the best produced factory rifle made back in those days. FWIW, the CDL is a throwback to the BDL. A lot of customers wanted them back the way they were made. But, since Remington had changed it they just renamed that style the 'CDL'

    Anyhow, for many of the things I'm not happy with Remington for this is one I am happy about. It is a really nice rifle.
