Front Stock Removal

Hi,
I am new here and not sure if this is the correct forum to place my question, so if not, just delete. I have the first gun I ever owned, a Sears model 200 pump 12 gauge. It pales in monetary value to all the other guns I have come to own, but it has provided more memories than all the rest put together. I have decided to refinish the stock set, and this is my question. The fore stock located on the pump has a round threaded metal ring with two slots that tightens down to secure the wood to the slide mechanism. Is there a special tool to remove this without doing damage or some trick I need to know? I had thought of using a drift to free it, but the gun is still pristine after all these years and I would like to keep it that way if possible. Any advice is appreciated.

    try a search for "forend wrench" at brownells

    There is a special wrench , but two flat screwdrivers will do in a pinch !

    go to brownells as the last poster stated( good advise) look for the MENCK wrench. this will serve you well and do it right.
    the ring that you are talking about has very fine threads.
    this wrench will help you NOT to mess up a good thing when you go to put it back together. good luck...260

    P.S. Welcome here with your first postings. Also, I inhereted the same scatter-gun and it still does what it was made to do.
