Sako.....what model is this?

GUITARDJ
This is a 300 win mag and the only marking as far as the model goes is A V (the V having a line above and below like the Roman numeral). Walnut stock w/checkering and a Leupold Vari X III 3.5 x 10 x 40 objective.

    That is the model, AV. Very nice bolt action hunting rifles.

    The A-V (A5) is the SAKO proprietary designator for a particular rifle action. The A-V was for the same length round as the A-II, but was a heavier, stronger action and was used for 30-06 and belted magnums until 1990, when the designation system was changed. There were a variety of rifle configurations available for each of the action types. This is my own SAKO A-V rifle in .375 H&H

    These rifles will provide you with a lifetime of solid service and hold their value extremely well. Check to see if your rifle has the SAKO factory scope rings...Those little guys are worth considerable cash!

    Any ideas what this gun is worth. It's actually a friends and he asked me to investigate this because he is looking to sell it. He says it's in excellent condition.

    The information you provided is far too vague (.300 Win Mag with a walnut stock). We'd either need to see some photos or a serious description of the rifle and it's features to give any sort of value.

    The AV was made during the Stoeger import years. Yours should have the Stoger markings on the bottom of the barrel, just ahead of the stock. Condition is very important on rifles like this. I paid $1050 for a perfect one in 338 Win Mag. not long ago. Deluxe models bring a little more, even though they usually have plainer grained wood.

    Of cours Mark Christian has the one I have been watching for, the AV in 375 H&H.

    Rifles like this have to find the right buyer to bring good money. A lot of people don't want a fancy rifle with nice wood anymore(not many anyway, since you have to buy a custom to get that in a new rifle).
