Remington "red" stock finish

    I was using Homer Formbys Sedona Red Walnut stain to replicate the WZ29 appearance when I threw a number of them together a few years ago. By mixing it with a little standard Walnut brown, I got a really nice match that made a good undercoat for the Tung oil.

    Thanks for the info, 1KYDSTR. I will check into that. I'm also hoping someone else remembers what was used to help give the walnut the nice rich reddish brown that the older Remingtons are noted for. I read it on a forum and I thought it was here. Thanks again.

    Take a look at Brownells. They sell several stains for the red look on Winchester stocks in order to get the perfect matching color.

    2 guys the collectible Winchester business that make a red stain that looks like the old finish.

    Tapaderas Winchester is the google. I have used it with good results.
