what is the serial number cut off for pre 64 Winchester model 70

  700,000 if I recall correctly

  581,471 was supposedly the last Pre-64 Model 70. The post 64 variation started at 700,000 as 1KYDSTR stated. In 1969 they have a "G" at the start of the Serial #, which is a dead giveaway.

  Does anyone know who owns the last Pre-64 Model 70 off the line or where it might be? Museum?

  I'd rather have the first one than the last. Doubt that the last one is considered that special. By 1960 they had soldered sight ramps, machine checkering and plastic butt plates.

  I think I remember reading in the American Rifleman years ago that someone found either Model 70 001 or 002 hanging in a pickup truck gunrack in Texas. If I remember right, it was chambered in 30-06. I think that one is in a museum somewhere.
