Winchester 1897 barrel band

I am sure this may had been asked, but is there a small notch in the barrel where the barrel band of a Winchester 1897 is placed. This would be were the barrel band bushing screws aline?

    It is not a notch as such. There is a very small rib down the middle to help center the attaching screws on each side.

    There is no notch on the barrel its self? I would say about 14 inches up.

    Want to thank everyone for there help. Trying to put a old 1897 back togather after someone lost a lot of parts. Could never find a clear picture as if the screws in the bushing rode in the groove or if the other other side of the bushing fitted into this groove.

    Hi,
    You can find out pretty much all the "secrets" regarding complete disassembly and reassembly of the Winchester Model 1897 shotgun by purchasing the "AGI Armorer's Course" DVD for that particular weapon. It costs about $40 + S&H and is worth every bit of that. There are things on the Win97 you can screw up if you don't understand its design and function and the specifics of why it goes together the way it does.

    You can find this AGI DVD in either the Brownells or Midway catalogs or visit the AGI (American Gunsmithing Institute) website.

    Also, you cn find screws and parts for the Win97 from time to time on the GunBroker Auction side web site. Be careful, as some of these sellers will sell parts that are in pretty bad condition.
