Colt SAA 3rd gen fitting

I am going to get a set of grips from a 2nd Generation SAA and about everyone says "minor fitting to 3rd generation" which I have. I want these nice ones on my 3rd...but what entails "minor fitting." THANKS

  New grips are made oversize because there are slight variations in the shape of the frame in the grip area. So, "fitting" means removing some of the grip material where it extends beyond the frame.
  
  Grips that were previously installed may or may not fit another gun without fitting. Installation may require removing some grip material in some areas, frame material in others. Your gun, you can mutilate it as you see fit.
  
  The means by which grips are "fitted" depends upon the material. Folks at the Colt factory use tools to prevent damage to the frame when fitting grips. Your skill & your tools may vary.

  I'm pretty good with my hands and have a 3rd gen. It's not too tough but don't be surprised by all the extra wood. Two points - the hard part is the leading corners where the grips square & meet the frame's top & side. Fit there first THEN drill the hole for the pin that keeps the grips from sliding.
  
  Be careful to keep the original contours where the grips meet the backstrap, don't want them to be chunky - and keep them the same on each side.

  Be sure to cover the grip frame with masking tape if you are doing any final sanding or filing while they are on your gun!
