aging stag grips

Does anyone have any suggestions on aging or yellowing stag grips? These stag grips are pretty old but just need that old purtina look to them. Thanks

    Greg Martin told me that some people let them sit in a cup of tea for a few days.

    where can I get some magnesium permanganate?

    Actually, potassium permanganate is used for dyeing stag and bone. It requires some practice in it's use. It can be found on Ebay.

    The tea will do a good job for you. That is what John Wayne used to age the grips on one of the Colts he used in several movies.

    peddler.....Just a question...why would you want to age the stag grips? I love stag grips and have the on many guns and knives. Heck, I actually had my WV knifemaker make me a drop point Bowie around the most beautiful piece of stag I have ever seen. I would sooner put tea on my feet rather than try to stain that wonderful piece of natural stag. Stag is becoming very valuable so I question why you would like to "play" around with it. Certainly your right to do anything you want, but stag is IMHO beautiful when left alone and will age..granted takes a long time, on its own. I would leave them alone and enjoy them as they age as they get old. Anyway, just my 2cents on perhaps a rethink. [^]
