AR-15 barrels

Does it require a gunsmith to change a barrel on an AR-15, from say a .223 to a 6.8 SPC. Headspace, barrel vice etc. If no, who makes good bbls. I have a DPMS NIB in 223, I'd like to change to something else. THX HAWKSHAW

  i am looking for a 20in heavy barrel 1-8 twist stainless steel, I am in the process of building a varmint/tactical "sniper" rifle on a ar platform will be using bullet weights from 60 grain and up to 72 grain. Other than a er shaw barrels and junk dpms/bushmaster what other barrel out on the market is good? The upper will have a free float quad rail. Any suggestions?

  Gunsmith is not needed, but you will need tools to do it.
  
  The barrels will come head spaced. You will need a receiver block, barrel wrench and a torque wrench.

  You will need those tools, that Nwcid has mentioned, if the barrel extension is installed on the barrel. If you are using a fresh barrel, and barrel extension, you will need a headspace gauge too.
  
  The other option, is just to get a 6.8 SPC complete upper. That way, it is much like a TC Encore...a quick 2 minutes or less, and you have another rifle.
