what makes you think it is 'stainless'?

edit; just to note, they did crome plate 1903 rifles for 'parade use'. the CMP sold a bunch of these not too long ago.

How do you know it's stainless? Also too bad the serial number was defaced with X's.

Extremely rare. So rare, they don't exist. Someone polished the frap out of a used carbon steel USGI barrel & installed it on your rifle.

Since you failed to post photos of your rifle, we can't tell if the barrel swap increased the value or decreased it.

But, with the mutilated barrel, it's likely worth in the $200-300 range, like most other sporterized Springfields.

EDIT: Mike makes a good point; he could be right. Let's hope not; the barrels & receivers from drill rifles are considered unsafe to fire live ammo. That would lower my estimate above by $200-300.

Have a gunsmith check it before you buy it. Some of the early 03s were made from soft steel and are not safe to shoot. Later models are great to shoot as is or for customizing. I hunted with a stock NRA Springfield for many years then converted it to 35 Whelen, a mistake.
