NEF Handi Rifle problem

I have one in 45-70. The SB2 version if that makes a difference.

The problem is that when the muzzle is pointed down the hammer won't come back. When it's raised even just a little above horizontal it works fine. Gravity seems to be doing something in there.

Anybody ever seen this? Know how to fix it? Is it something a do-it-yourself gunsmith like myself can fix?

Hardly worth paying someone to fix it but I want to sell it.

    Sounds like the transfer bar between the hammer and the firing pin is hanging up. It may be catching on the pin face. Swanie

    "It may be catching on the pin face. "..........or the spring that controls it may be broken/misassembled. just note that this is an easy action to take apart but a bitch to put back together (slave pins required).

    Sounds like the transfere bar to me as well.
    SB2 reciever is the reciever used for the bigger calibers.
    You can add barrels both rifle and shot gun, to this reciever.

    As prices are going up, and appears that the barrel assessory program in winding down, would be worth it to have a gunsmith take a look.

    No hammer extension on this one.

    I found what looks like some excellent instructions for taking one of these apart. Including exactly how to make the slave pin. It looks like it was intended for people wanting to do trigger work but I won't be doing that. Just taking it apart far enough to check the transfer bar and it's spring.

    You guys were right. The transfer bar was hanging up on the bottom of the firing pin. Took it all apart and polished the pin and the bar and now it's all better. Those instructions I posted made it quite easy to take apart and put back together.
