Winchester Model 12

Looking for a model 12 in 20ga. or 12ga. made in 1953. What ser. # range would I be looking for?

    I purchased a 20ga. today. It needs a little restoration to make it a respectable quail gun. However when I got home with her, I thought I knew how to break the gun down(it is a take down model). Igot it apart but can't seem to get her back togather! Can someone help? Does the bolt need to be forward as in closed?[:(]

    waterfowl, might better get one of the newer 3.5 inch 12 ga.

    According to Dave Riffle's book on the Model 12, it looks like serial number 1331757 would have been made in 1951.

    Cranky, dont worry about gettin a 3.5 for waterfowl. These old model 12 duck guns will really shoot. Just check to make sure everything is original. On a duck gun it should have the red recoil pad. Also, take the recoil pad off and there should be a hole drill into the stock filled with lead. Winchester did this to help balance these guns.

    Should have a 30 or 32" barrel. The 32 is less common. I mostly collect the "pre war" duck guns and they are difficult to find.

    Winchester Model 12 serial number 1336780 was the last receiver serialized in August of 1950. The gun you are looking at was serialized sometime in early August 1950.

    You do know that you can't shoot steel in that old model 12.
    Thats why mine got retired years ago.
