Sight height?
I got a deal on a 1911 clone, with a broken rear sight. I replaced it with a fixed version. My groups are about 18in low at 25ft. My front sight is .251 high. Wondering how much shorter of a sight I should look for to level it off. Is .190 too small? Gun shoots great groups, just need to get them on target.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Well, a couple of low cost alternatives are available to you in reducing the front sight or raising the rear sight. You can purchase and install a taller rear sight or you can build up the existing rear sight with something like JB Weld and then shape it with a small file (believe it or not, this works pretty darn well); or you can file down the existing front sight to raise the point of impact. 0 -
Go to www.brownells.com look up the Sight-Correction-Calculator and use the formula there,
You have a big difference at 25yds. About .400 may be needed.0 -

Have you tried different ammo to see if the point of impact changes? What bullet weight? Factory or reloads? 18" low is a lot at 25 feet, so you probably do need to correct the sight height, but trying different ammo is at least a good reason to spend time on the range.[:)] 0
