Colt Trooper .38 Special CTG
My first thread was locked after 10 replies, so I wanted to get another started as I received two conflicting replies with regards to the value of the Colt in particularly.
One member said $500 quote I was given was accurate.
One said that it would be worth more if it was stamped with ".38 Special" - Which it does.
One member said it was worth less than $500.
I'm trying to locate the OE grips which I believe are in a box in the spare bedroom of my dads house. In the mean time, I've been trying to find out which grips to buy that are OE, wood, with silver medallions and fit the I frame so in the event I can't locate the ones back home, I can find/buy some that are original factory replacements.
The handgun, as described in my original thread, is near-mint (has been fired) condition with no blemishes.
s/n is 905xxx

Your revolver was made in 1954. My books say the .38 is worth approximately 10 % less than the .357 I'm of the opinion that $500 would be the very top end for your revolver. If you can't find a set of grips, GPC sells a replacement set, they are not original though.

No, I didn't say $500 was accurate. I said "from what I can see", $500 was accurate.
You posted poorly lit cell phone photos & incomplete descriptions. What do you expect? We figured that you did the best that you could, & we answered as best as we could. There was no point in playing "20 Questions" trying to get more information out of you. Besides, you said that you weren't selling the guns, so what's the difference? Why are you worried about buying replacement grips when you haven't looked for the original ones at home?
Let me revise my estimate to one that all of us can hopefully agree with: "I think your Colt would sell in the $350-650 range."

As I see it,,I still say less than 500...no box (true collectors a must) replaced grips,,,and a specialty small group of that type,,Troopers,, 0 -
Thanks guys for the input. I didn't mean to draw out the sensitive guy in the group.
I just wanted to see at first if the value I was given from the local shop was accurate. Then once the attention was brought to the grips, I was hoping to maybe see if finding factory grips (outside of the ones that came on the gun) would be a good investment to the overall value of this particular handgun.
Without face-to-face comms, sometimes it takes 20 questions to help somebody in need of good info.0 -
