SA REMINGTON 1903
Hey guys, I have two questions on what I think is a reworked 03 I bought 4 or 5 years ago and finally got it out to shoot. First, when you bolt it up, the safty lever will not line up with the slot in the bolt housing, unless you pull the pin back a 3/16ths of an inch or so?? And also the reciever looks to be re-worked around the cut-off lever or maybe it was just pitted real bad and it is re-parkerized. Made in the early 20,s....Sn.1,218,xxx Also the bolt seems real bindy??? is it safe!!!!???HELP![?]

Remington only made the M1903 during WW2. We have no idea of what you have since you failed to post photos. We certainly can't tell whether or not it is safe.
You need to have it evaluated by a gunsmith before shooting it.

lots of possiblities, altered/changed trigger assy./cocking piece. possible a 'rebuilt' parade rifle. the cmp sold a bunch of these several years ago with the magazine cut-off welded in place so you couldn't remove the bolt. the weld could be ground off and the action rebuilt. a trip to your gunsmith is in order. 0
