Rifle Stocksl
Birch VS. Walnut. What are the differences in the two woods as for as how they hold up and the way the the rifle functions?

Walnut is generally darker than birch and more rot resistant. that is, unfinished and left out in the elements birch would break down faster. They are both very stong and stable; excellent choices for stocks. Seems like birch has been used more in Europe and walnut more here in the U.S. probobly due to availability. As far as function of your firearm there should be no difference. 0 -
Hello B-52,
Welcome to the forums here on Gunbroker.com
Walnut is a darker, and more figurative wood than Birch. It is also denser, and more expensive. Birch is used on a lot of more inexpensive rifles, and shotguns, like some Mossberg 500's, Ruger 10-22's Marlin 60's, ...etc.
