Savage Model 99
I HAVE A SAVAGE 99. I KNOW FROM THE SERIAL# IT WAS MANUFACTURED IN 1940. HOWEVER IT DOES NOT HAVE THE WORDS "MODEL 99" (A B C D E EG EGR F G R RS T K ETC ETC)STAMPED ANY WHERE THAT I CAN SEE. IS THERE SOMEPLACE WHERE I CAN FIND THE EXACT MODEL DESIGNATION THAT I HAVE?
THE RIFLE IS CHECKERED, HAS A PISTOL GRIP, 24"BARREL, BEAD SIGHT IN A RAISED RAMP, SCHNABEL FORE-END. HOWEVER AS I SAID IT DOESN'T EVEN HAVE THE WORDS "MODEL 99"STAMPED ANYWHERE ON IT LET ALONE THE LETTER IN ORDER TO IDENTIFY IT. THANKS FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION AND HELP IN SOLVING THIS MYSTERY!!

I've been looking for a Savage Model 99 .243 cal. for a long time without luck. I know they were manufactured per Savage literature, but they must be rare. Originally, they were manufactured to introduce kids and wives to hunting and shooting. Any ideas?
Thanks,

...and if you can't post pictures, go to the auction side and look for similar rifles and see what they've sold for. 0 -
Of course pics would be best but give us the serial #, if there is a circle on the leverboss ( where the lever meets the reciever) there will be a letter and a number inside the circle.what dose the buttstock look like? what dose the forearm look like? is there a slide button( or latch button ) under the forearm? dose it have a knuckle out on the end? is it checkered? are there any other kind of markings on the forearm? where is the safety located on the gun? as you see there are alot of factors involved. the better description you give the closer we can get to figureing out what model you have. 0 -

Butt plate is grooved steel.
This is my first try with pics - how do I post them so they show
more detail or can be zoomed, etc?
Thanks,0 -
Well, if it's a good as the picture's indicate I'd say about $550.00. The belly of the receiver is what tends to show wear on these because it's a natural carry point and the 99 is a working rifle.
Edit: I'd revise a bit and say that's without the scope. I don't know if the side mounted scope drilled & tapped helps or hurts value.0 -
