Hello Sir it looks like this rifle was rechambered from a very mild H&H 25 caliber shot cartridge . and the gunsmith "if you want to call him that chambered this lightly built rifle to a U.S. cartridge 25WCF. better known as a 25/20 . The bore of this fire-arm is in poor condition . but more troublesome it looks like the frame is cracked around the hinge pin . MOST LIKELY from overloaded powder charge in a cartridge not designed for this Rifle. I would get a GUN SMITH to really look at this rifle and see if safe to shoot. MAGNA-FLUX if possible. I think you have a wall hanger. IF frame is truly Cracked. [:(!][V][:(] BTW did you Talk to Bob the maker of your knife you were asking about[?]

I sure did. He was so helpful! Thank you so much. This is why I love GunBroker. You guys are so so so very helpful.

Yes it does appear to have a hairline fracture in it. So if I had to pick a gun from the blue book, I'd be right saying this is the .250 Rook Rifle that has been re-calibrated to 25/20 WCF?

The bore is actually not too bad. That was the worst spot in the entire bore so I took a picture of it. The rest is rather pit-free with nice rifling.

    Thanks so much!

That is an English made "Rook Rifle." If you do an internet search on "Rook rifles" you will find a fair amount of info on them. As stated above, it appears to have been rechambered for the .25-20 WCF (Winchester Center Fire) cartridge.

Gauges & instruments are re-calibrated; firearms & dogs are altered.

Fortunately, Holland & Holland is still in business, & repairs their own guns. Even better, they have a facility in New York. You may want to send them your photos & ask if they would consider repairing your rifle.
