S&W Model of 91 .22 LR
I just aquired a S&W model 91 single shot .22 lr target pistol from my grandfather. I am having trouble finding additional information about this firearm. I am interested in its value, actual year produced, etc... It has six serial numbers and I have located three sets of identical numbers on various spots on the pistol. It is a 5 out of 10 in condition as the bluing is wearing off on the barrel and has a few small dings and scratches from use and its age. The barrel is original and is 8" in length. I am wanting to know anything and everything about this pistol and would it hurt the value to have it re-blued? I am not interested in selling, just preserving for future generations. Thanks and if you know how to post a picture of it on this site I will add one, just cant figure out how.

Commercial refinishing of antique firearms destroys their value.0 -
Before you upload photos to your "photo host" site, you want to resize them. Use the photo editing program on your computer to do this. Generally, find IMAGE, then RESIZE; select 800 x 600 (or something close to that) & SAVE AS with a new name. Upload the image & add it to your post.
Before posting any photo, click the PREVIEW button. This will show you exactly what the photo will look like when it is actually posted. If it looks too large, or out of focus, or too dark to you, that's how it will look to us.

DO NOTtry to refinish this pistol. In refinishing this pistol it will LOSE75% of it's value. These guns were made in the golden age of Pistol Slow fire target shooting. There were 3 different models the 1891 First model had only 1,251 pistols made in 22 Long Rifle.32 S&W as well as 38 S7W. ONLY 862 made in 22 long rifle and this in three different barrel lengths combined. the second and third models had 10 inch barrels only in the 22 long rifle. 0 -

I have resized the pics. I have several to upload. Are there any particulars anyone would like me to post? Thank you all for you input. From what I can gather there were 862 of these made and the 8" barrel is the rarest example of this model. Anyone able to confirm or deny?0 -

Have you chambered a cartridge in it? If the cartridge just drops about half-way in and you have to thumb push it the rest of the way you have a so called "Olympic" model. Value is greater. 0 -
