Brown Bess Carbine - Pattern 1839?

I am trying to identify a Brown Bess that looks a lot like the Pattern 1839 musket but the overall length is only ~48" The barrel length is ~31" Here is a link http://appdoodle.com/brownbess/index.html to some close up pictures. I would appreciate any help this forum can give me. Thanks you.

  I suggest you post this at antiqueguns.com in the Pre-1899 forum. Bill Curtis is a world-renowned expert in British firearms and can no doubt help you. He is located in Great Britain and I believe his father was a Royal Armorer.
