Marlin model 1894S .44-40

What have I got? Didn't get an accurate response from Marlin. Not listed in Blue Book. I'm guessing made in late 1970's, still new unfired. Barrel stamped Model 1894S. 44-40. Tang is stamped 4440---- According to Blue Book, the "S" model wasn't offered in 44-40. Likewise, the Cowboy Model is stamped "Cowboy Model". Barrel is round. Help me out guys!
