    Bert;
    Need an education on a Winchester model 94 in 356 Winchester. Years made? An oddity to collect? Relative worth? Have a buddy at the shop wanting me to take it off his hands for a song and a prayer along with two boxes of ammo. Your advice is always greatly appreciated.

    Bill,

    This is what I am specifically looking for;

    1. Serial number (complete) and the letter series
    2. Variation (e.g. Brush, Fancy, Field, Pigeon, Riot, Tournament, Trap, or Trench Gun)
    3. Gauge
    4. Barrel length
    5. Choke
    6. Butt stock type (e.g. round knob PG, semi-PG, or straight grip)
    7. Butt plate type (e.g. smooth steel, checkered steel, hard rubber, or composition)
    8. Slide bar marking type.
    9. Solid Frame or Take Down.
    10. If it is in the 905000 - 924000 range, is it "W" marked
    11. For the Trench guns, which type ventilated heat shield it has, and what the barrel date is.

    What I am doing is pinning down the precise serial number ranges for each of the many changes that the Model 1897(97) went through.
