Winchester Model 12 Question
Hi, experts. My question is this; what is the significance of a serial number on a Model 12 with the capitol letter W beneath the serial number? I've seen this on some but not all Model 12s. Thanks Jim

The one I have is serial number 29,XXX. I was wondering what year it was made? Also it has the Cutts compensator system on the barrel, were they a factory add-on or was it done by a gunsmith at a later time? Thank you for your time. 0 -
How is your gun choked?? full, mod, i/c ??? 0 -
Dave,
Are you sure that it is not actually 26-inches (that was the standard length for the early production 16-gauge guns). Use a cleaning rod inserted down the bore until it bottoms out on the bolt face, and then measure it.0 -
It's a full choke and the barrel is exactly 26" long. 0 -

That makes it a standard gun.
I will additionally point out that the currently published serial number to DOM lists are not 100% accurate for most of the Winchester Models. If you would like to verify the DOM, post the serial number and I can provide you with the month & year of manufacture.0 -
Bert For a little privacy I Emailed you the SN. Posting the date of origin is okay. 0 -
