    Hi,

I am not very good at identifying shotgun shell headstamps.

I think what you might have is an AAI Corporation special purpose cartridge. AAI Corporation is a division of Textron Systems Corp. and one of their customers is the Dept. of Defense. AAI went on to develop a grenade launcher for US military latter known as the M203 in 1968.

AAI was involved with mulitple projects for the US military including Project SALVO. SALVO was concerned with small weapons with high rates of fire or cartridges which fired multiple projectiles (duplex, triplex, and more) from a single cartridge.

AAI developed a flechette load in a 12 gauge shotgun shell which was loaded with 32 flechettes, which after testing was found to be only marginally useful.

I don't know if this is your 12 gauge shotgun shell or not. You can probably find out for certain at this website:

    http://www.cartridgecollectors.org/

The guys on that website are experts and someone there will probably be able to specifically ID your shotgun shell. A photo would probably help.

    Best,

    Heavyiron
