86 Winchester
I just bought an 86 Winchester in 33WCF. Gun is a takedown version and is the light rifle model. Nice condition ,just needs a buttplate.
My question to the experts is this.
The gun has a 24 inch barrel .All resources I looked at say they have a 22 or 26 inch barrel. The front sight looks correct on the barrel.
Could this be a special order gun with a 24 inch barrel or WHAT?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello without knowing your level of expertise forgive me if I may hurt your feelings. But the correct way to measure a barrel's length is with the gun unloaded slip a cleaning rod down the bore mark the point on the cleaning rod when the tip touches the closed BOLT remove cleaning rod and measure from tip to your mark . Many people make the mistake of measuring to the front of the receiver . A letter from Cody will tell you exactly the configuration of your rifle when shipped . well worth the money on a model 86 Winchester. 0 -
Hello chicoppee,
All Winchester Model 1886 rifles in the 33 W.C.F. caliber were standard with a 24-inch barrel, and they are not ever officially listed as a "light weight" model.
The barrel length for the standard Model 1886 Sporting Rifle in all other calibers/cartridges was 26-inches, and the Carbines and Extra Lightweight Rifles were standard with a 22-inch barrel.0 -
Thanks for the information Bert.Makes me feel better that it is legit! 0
