could be a weak ext. spring, chipped extractor, or pitted/dirty/rusty chamber. a good cleaning is in order, and check to see if the fireing pin has been changed to a new 'flat' one.

Imperative on that rifle to have the gas chamber sparkling clean.

They had a recall on the firing pin on that model. You can still call Winchester /Browning and give them your serial number to see if the pin has been fixed..

Thats a good old gun but as others have quite rightly said. There was a recall on the firing pins that winchester will honor for free.

Give the gun a good cleaning and inspect the spring. The jam you mention generally means one or the other.

I picked up one of these for $ 200.00 that had been sitting in a closet for 20 years. Took it apart for good cleaning and there was no firing pin! Asked around and found a gunsmith in Maine that sold me the parts for $ 35.00. I replaced every thing and took it to deer rifle sight in days. Worked like a new rifle! You can find on E-bay a gun smith manual on how to take a WIN 100 apart and maintain it. Just go to catagoreies type in WIN 100 and hit search. Very tricky to disasemble and reasemble. Just my .02 worth. Brownell's sells a new gas piston assy. for the WIN 100. About $ 70.00. Good idea to replace this if yours has been shot a lot.

You can obtain a downloadable, soft copy of the original Winchester factory manual for the Win 100 (and other guns), in Adobe .pdf format from Steve's Pages. Here is the URL:
    http://stevespages.com/page7b.htm
The file is approx 275 megabytes.

It is not a gunsmith's manual on the weapon, but does give basic care, takedown and reassembly information. So, it is a no-charge option for you, if you are interested.
