Because of the reinforced frame around the trigger axis pin, and the lower case "p" serial number suffix. My WAG is that it's a Mauser made byf 44.

It's a Mauser P38 I believe. The guy couldnt see the markings and yes it is upside down. I was having technical difficulties. I'm thinking about $600. Sorry the pic stinks, it's what was sent to me from a guy looking to sell his collection.

The finish almost looks to good, if it is a byf 44. Without better quality photos it's quite difficult assess. If the finish is original, and all external and internal numbers match, and the bore is in good shape? $600 would be a fair price.
