it will help your value, if it is as you say new/surplus stock.
make sure it is original equipment.

hunter1673......help or hinder value? It all depends. You don't tell us what kind of fn49 you have...does it have any value to collectors? For example, I have a Arg fn49 that the Arg converted to .308 and removable magazine. It is also serial # 0050! With matching bayonet. Like your fn, my stock is not the best but if I replaced it any collector value would be destroyed as it would no longer be original. So, it just depends. It has also been my experience that some stocks that look lousy can be brought back with some TLC. So, if it were mine, I would be very careful about replacing the stock and rather look at bringing it back...kinda like restoring an old car with matching numbers. But your call..good luck[^]

Even if I replaced the stock with another surplus stock, I would retain the old stock for future use. Just in case you want to put it back to its original configuration.

The SAFEST move is one you can always reverse...but you also have to please yourself...!

I have a 'collectable' 22 rifle that I have had since I found it in my grandfathers garage ...45 years ago.

I grew up shooting that rifle. I still shoot it and take it on trips, etc. Every so often someone ends up shaking their head because this crazy man is shooting a fine old specimen.

    ENJOY YOURSELF ! [:)]
