Springfield XD 9mm

I'm making my first pistol purchase this week and I am leaning toward getting a Springfield XD 9mm subcompact (for $489) from a local gun shop.

I love the weight of the gun, as well as the magazine/handel extension it comes with so those with bigger hands don't have to mess with half their hand hanging off the handel.

Does anyone have any experience with this gun? Am I making a good choice (model/price)?

  I've carried one for over 5 years. Light, accurate and eats anything I feed it. You'll love it!

  I have one, very good choice. Accurate and reliable. It has a couple features other guns dont have, a grip safety and loaded chamber indicator.

  I can get a bi-tone (silver top) 4 inch XD 9mm locally for $449 used -OR- an all black 3 inch subcompact for $489 new...
  
  Do you all prefer the subcompact version to the 4 inch?
  
  I like the smaller one because it has the grip extension magazine.

  My carry gun also and I absolutely love it !! $489 is fair price ..

  I carry a stainless subcompact. It's perfect for concealment. Since NY State still restricts magazines to 10-rounds, I put a Pearce Grip Extension (around $8) on my 10-round mag. I use a Galco Matrix holster (less than $25) and never even feel it. It's easy to remove or put on without undoing my belt and sits high and tight against my body so it's easy to wear a t-shirt over it.

  I have an XD subcompact 9mm Bi-Tone and also a full size. Whichever fits your hand better is the one you should get. Although I like the SC the full size fits my hand better and I prefer it.
  
  I like the Bi-Tone models over the solid black as they seem to clean up easier after the range visit. Both are fine, it's just personal preference.

  Outstanding pistol. Easy to maintain and a natural pointer. As mentioned, mine digests anything I feed it. Price seems reasonable.
