garland stock mod cont...

wasn't my post, but i thought marks pictures were worthy of comment.
before i replied to the original post i thought of getting a garland out of the safe and doing what mark did, but i was too lazy.[B)]
obvious that modifying the butt plate isn't feasible. would have to replace it with a custom fit. also, as mark showed, the thickness of the remaining stock would be marginal, at best.
i'm wondering if the replacement stocks from cpm and others come oversized?
what about inserting the clip from to back instead of vertical?

I thought that you were just teasing the poor guy, I had no idea that this was a serious suggestion!
While no where near as much fun as reengineering the entire M1 butt plate and modifying the stock, if you want use the stock to carry a few extra clips why not just use one of these carriers that slips right over the butt stock?

now, what fun would that be!!?
years ago i machined a mauser broomhandle stock, just to understand how it was done.
for the garand, i'm thinking a new butt plate with the clip behind a spring loaded door.
practical? probably not. but the engineering to do it intrigues me.
remember, back in my aerospace engineering days, i prototyped a titanium ashtray for the grumman A6E. the gov't paid for 10 to be produced at $600 each! this despite the fact that smoking on the A6E was prohibited!!!! your tax dollars at work........

tomActually, that was for the pilot and BN to keep their spare change in just in case they had to bingo to some isolated location, like Fallon, Nevada; they'd have change for the Slot Machines!0 -

i was going to mention that, but it's still classified info. [:0]
