Remington 760 Springfield Game Master 30-06
Hi there, my stepdad has an early model (serial #117060) 760. This gun has lived the last 30 years in a cabinet, not fired, dropped, jarred, etc. but somehow he lost the magazine. I bought a "universal" clip http://www.remington.com/products/accessories/gun-parts/magazine-clips/models-six-7600-760-76magazine-clips.aspx and it absolutely refuses to stay in the gun. It stayed in one time, but he could not make it happen again.
We gave the gun a basic inspection, everything seems to be functioning and it shoots just fine. Returning the item to the local gun shop I'd bought it from, the firearm at home, they recommended that we have the gun serviced, assuring me that a spring was broken.
I've read online that this model can be a bit fussy with universal mags, original equipment is best. Does anyone else have this gun or this problem? Does it really need servicing? If it needs original equipment, where could I find such a thing? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

no, the new magazine needs to be 'fitted' to your rifle, being made for over over 50 years some tolerences will change. this is a minor 'adjustment' that your gunsmith can do. 0 -
Ok, I will pass along the info. Thank you so much. 0 -
Yep, I go along with MW on this one. Just need to take it to a knowledgable gunsmith(if Mike Wiskey is in your area, I may suggest him), and let him dress the catch on the magazine.
