From what you have described it is either a 870 Wingmaster or a express that is just missing the word express. The Wingmaster is more expensive but a better sporting gun. So I would search for the 870 express and compare the prices.

Bought a brand spankin new 870 'Express' aprx. 2 years ago. Got it home and noticed no where on the gun did it say 'express', only 870. I looked at the label on the box and the serial numbers match and the label did in fact state 870 'express'. I e-mailed Remington and got a reply stating the gun was in fact a express and I was correct that the gun was/is not stamped 'express', that it was a "marketing decission". Guess it saves $ 1.85 per gun. I don't know, and don't like it,but that was the reply I got.

To be certain email the seller. Sounds like a express from the finish. Both good guns but there is more to value than just which 870 it is...

Wing-masters generally command higher prices and excellent old wingmasters are prized by some.

Seems like that could be a liability too. What if they recalled the 870 express and your is only marked 870 ? There also a difference in part quality too, which part shoul/would you order ? Re-sale value ? They should mark it as its known !

Yea, the wingmaster has much better polished parts and operates more like an old pre 64 Win. model 12. The express is not the same gun, and they dont command the $.
