I ave used the technique you out lined below except I did not drill the barrel. I have cleaned up two shotgun barrels with fine steel wool wrapped around a brush and valve grinding compound and all of them cleaned up quite nice, not like new, a small amount of pitting but cleaned up of rust and shooting again. Your email address you have listed is not working you may want to correct it.

From the prior posts:
The barrel is 24 inches long.I will have a 22inch X 1/4 or 7/32 made, and drill out the barrel from the muzzle end and then polish the best I can with steel wool on a cleaning rod chucked up in a hand drill. If it shoots shotshells nearly as good as the flobert,I'll be happy.
Thanks again,Joyce

You are welcome, and don't forget to let us know how it worked out for you. I suspect a drill that Brownell's sells for installing barrel liner's would be just the ticket you are looking for. It even has a bore guide, to keep it on center. Also, do be careful to not wipe out the chamber.

Thanks all,
I will try the steel wool wrapped around a brass bore brush on a hand drill first. That looks like the cheepest route and not invest in a long drill bit if I don't have to.0 -
If you don't want to by valve grinding compound use the tooth paste idea, it will help polish the barrel. the valve grinding compound will take material out of the steel so if you use it you should go slow with it until you see how it is going.
