    Hi,

You will need a better description and photos of these cartridges for any estimate of value.

What type of 50 caliber cartridges are these: 50-70, 50 carbine, 50 Sporting, 50 Maynard 1865, 50 Gatling Short, 50 Gatling Long, or other? What are their dimensions, i.e., caliber, rim size, case length, OAL, etc? What is their condition?

If you are referring to the 50 Remington for the Navy Model 1867 rolling block pistol, then a photo is also needed to confirm the identification, since there was a both a 50 Army and 50 Navy version of this cartridge. Commercial ammunition for the 50 Navy was loaded until about 1920. What are the headstamps, if any? Ammunition was made by both Remington and Winchester.

According to the most recent prices in World-Wide Gun Reports 2010 a 50 Remington Navy with WRA headstamp - $10.00, USCCo headstamp - $10.00, UMC headstamp - $5.00, with wooden shot bullet $6.00. If they are in a pristine box they may be worth more than the individual price.

Either the 50 Army or Navy version are good collectible cartridges if they are in like new or good condition. Patina and some tarnish is good on a cartridge of some age. It would help your ability to keep or sell these specimens if they are properly identified and their condition was documented (as in photos).

No one can guess what these are or their value without a more complete description.

    Regards,

    Heavyiron
