20 Guage Recommendations?
I'm looking to purchase a shotgun for next deer season. Here are the features that I'd like to see:
20 Guage
Semi-Auto
Rifled Barrel
Drilled & Tapped For Scope Mounting
Relatively Light Weight
Based on these requirements what would be your first choice?
Thanks in advance

How much do you want to spend?? 0 -
Of course I'd like to spend as little as necessary. Preferably $1000.00 or less. 0 -
You didn't specify new or used. You could get a nice used Remington 1100 or 1187 20 gauge shotgun with a cantilever rifled slug barrel for well under $1000, including a high quality scope. Slap on a 2x7x32 Leupold and you'd have plenty of F.O.V. at the low end magnification for running deer under 100 yards, and enough high power magnification if you should need it for the occasional long shot at a standing deer in a field, for example. 0 -
I know you said Semi-auto, but you should check out the Savage 220 bolt action slug gun. I love it. Its not big and bulky like the old bolt action shotguns. Its small and sleek. Lighter than a semi and very accurate. It has the accu trigger and accustock. They only come in 20 ga. Check one out they are very nice. $400-$500 0 -
Agree with the Remington 1100. Tried & True and a good value. 0 -
OK, So far we've got two votes for the 1100 and a recommendation to take a look at the Savage bolt action.
I like the 1100 and the 11-87. Anyone know anything about the Rem 11-87? A check on Remington's' website revealed that the average weight of the 1100 is around 7 lbs and the 11-87 is about 7.5 lbs. I was hoping for something a little lighter but I'm not ruling it out. Perhaps I'm chasing an animal that doesn't exist???
MRGunz22, Currently I'm carrying a NEF Tracker with the rifled bbl. I had the barrel drilled and tapped, installed a scope and it's an awesome little deer rifle in 20 guage. Yes I meant to say rifle because that's essentially what it is. The only reason that I'm considering an Auto is because I've had instances where an immediate second or even third shot would have been very useful. I know that a bolt action can be fast but I don't really want to have to cycle an action at all, just aim and fire. I appreciate your input though so thank you for that.0 -
i have 2 slug guns: a 12 ga Beretta 390 semi-auto and a 20 ga ithaca 37 pump. i like both very much. the ithaca allows for rather rapid follow-up shots but the main advantages are 1. barrel attaches to the receiver with interrupted threads for greater stability hence accuracy, 2. thick solid steel at the top of the receiver to screw in scope mounts. so it's by far my favorite, i have a red-dot scope on it for fast target acquisition with unlimited eye relief. otherwise i use the 390 with good iron sights on the barrel

I have a 12 and 20 gauge savage slug gun and love them the 20 is a youth model for my son but I enjoy shooting it too. BEWARE of the new 12 gauge savage slug gun with the detachable magazine a friend of mine bought 3 and none of the three would load a shell out of the magazine but my older model without the detachable magazine works great 0 -
Browning has/had a slug gun in 20ga, rifled barrel, cantilever scope mount. Nice gun, lightweight and reliable. I think they called it the Deerslayer or something like that. 0 -
Based on what you have listed, how about an 1100 LT-20 or LW-20. If you are willing to consider a pump, then you can't beat a Remington 870 or Mossberg 500. 0
