Condition is real critical on any firearm and most firearms that are collectable. The Savage 23D was made from 1933 to 1947 similar to all the 23 models except it was chambered in 22 hornet. Most 23s were well used. In some cases the clip is worth more than the gun. Trust me Bob, I've seen alot of them.... The little winchester 04 was made from 1904 to 1931. Probably more collectable, again depending on condition. Those early guns seen a lot of black powder cartridges and if not cleaned properly after use it pretty much ruined the bore. Both these guns were used to provide, not to collect or hang on the wall. Values can be given, bought or sold, but somtimes its the memorys that can be priceless......[:)]

    Hello Rob,

Your Winchester Model 04 was manufactured sometime between April of 1919 and November of 1927.

The value is directly affected by the graded condition. In order to assess that, I need to see several clear close-up pictures of the rifle.

The Winchester should prove to be a bit collectable, but I leave that to Bert...one is wise to defer to him on virtually ALL things Winchester! as far as the little Savage goes they are quite collectable in their own right. I have owned many 23's over the years and the one I kept is a D model. Great little shooters and I am sure put tons of meat on the table over the years. If they are unbuggered and in really high condition (as mentioned though, these were largely used and used up) with no non factory holes I have seen them go in the last year for near $600. Pictures are a must here on both firearms.

Thanks for all the information. I am a life long hunnter/ firearm advocate and have had these guns, as well as some others that I have inherrited, for many years. I will attempt to get some pictures of both guns up, but in my opinion they are in mint collectors condition and I am guessing they have only been shot a few times, if at all. All the time I have had them they have been locked in a display case, but times are hard and it might be time to sell one or two. Thanks again

    Hello Rob,

A "mint" condition Model 04 is a rare thing. Most of them were used hard (boys rifle), and they show it. One that is truly in mint condition will have considerable collector interest, and could potentially sell for real serious $$$$. I will look forward to the pictures.
