Winchester 70 Post 64 Target - Floor Plate Issue
My floor plate is aluminum and the prior owner tried to reblue it and did a poor job of matching it to the other metal. The hinge that holds it is steel. Was Aluminum for the floor plate and steel for the hinge standard on the post 64 model 70? I am wondering if this might be a pre-64 floor instead of a post 64. The rifle was made in 1965 based on the serial number. I want to replace the floor plate but don't know whether to buy a post or pre 64 floor. The trigger guard is also made of steel rather than aluminum. Any help would be appreciated.

I think the post 64 has a different bolt, the 70 I have does. I can't tell if the floor plate is aluminum or not. The plate is marked with an A, 5, RI in a circle and 93.

I am hearing from another owner of a post 64 (1965) model 70 target who is saying that both his floor plate and trigger guard are made of aluminum. Since my trigger guard is made of steel and the hinge of the floor plate is steel and the floor plate itself is aluminum I am assuming that I have something different here. I now believe that the original owner may have put on a pre 64 stock and used pre 64 floor plate and trigger guard. Not sure how to prove that but will probably have to buy both pre and post 64 replacements to see which works. 0 -
I have a model 70, made in 72. The trigger guard is made of aluminum and the floor plate is steel. Maybe yours is correct, I don't know. But mine is badly chipped (the blueing) and I wanted to replace mine also. Hard to find. One person emailed me that he had what I wanted but was very expensive. Mike 0
