nikon prostaff vs. leupold rifleman
any input on these scopes? im looking at them for my slug gun. shots vary in distance from 30-125 yards. i want the 2-7 scope fore sure but im not sure which brand is better? im looking at the same guns with these different scopes so no need to hear about different scopes. thanks

from the get-go i am going to get a lot of flak... however so it is.
to be honest and from experience. i would take the nikon over the leupold any day of the week. the nikon is more clear and a better value. ask yourself... have i ever seen any leupold cameras??
i am in the gun business..gunsmith.. i am required to sight -in many rifles so, i am speaking from experience. i have nothing to gain.nor lose by my responce. i am telling you, if you buy leupold, you are paying for the name. thats the bottom line.0 -
Nikon, look through both and you'll see why. 0 -
I have two leupold scopes, and I have learned from them. I think their warranty is great, but the scope itself is overrated. I will go with a Nikon or Bushnell next time, and pocket the difference. 0 -
Of your 2 choices, I'd go with Leupold Rifleman. However, for the price of the Rifleman, you might consider the Redfield REVOLUTION 2-7X33 ACCU-RANGE (http://www.redfield.com/riflescopes/). Redfield is now owned by Leupold and carries the same excellent customer service and warranty.
I like Nikon binoculars and cameras but not their rifle scopes.
You be the judge!
Good luck!

I have a few of each, the Nikon seems a bit brighter but each is fine. Regarding Natchez - $99.00 for a 2 to 7X Nikon is a great deal. 0 -

But why are there so many of them refurbished to begin with [?]
$107 for 4-plex or $114 for Accurange (http://trophysoutdoors.com/node/17860) Redfield, I'd pay the extra for a new over the Nikon refurb.0 -
If the slug gun you are shooting is a semi-automatic, go with a Burris shotgun scope. I say Burris over the two you listed anyway, and that would be a comparable FullField II model. The shotgun scopes not only have a reduced parallax-free distance of 75 yards, but they are built to handle the bi-directional recoil of the semi-automatic slug guns. Nikon makes a slug gun scope, as well as Leupold too. Burris, by far is the better value, all the way around. I own Burris, Leupold, Sightron, Nikon, Nightforce, Schmidt & Bender, Swarovski, and Ziess rifle scopes. Burris is the best bang for the buck among the average consumer.
Best
EDIT 1
FEENIX,
Where do you think the Rifleman, and the Prostaff are made? It is not Switzerland.0 -

I too own Burris scopes but if it says Made in the Philippines (not the same quality standards as US), I'd think twice.
EDIT:
tsr1965,
Yes, I do know where they are made, but the OP needs to know ... and I'm glad you posted it. I really do not care where they are made as long as they are the same US quality standards. I have (well used to) two Burris FFIIs one older that was Made in the US and a newer one from the Phillippines. Needless to say, I no longer have the one Made in the Philllipines.0 -

+1 Hard to beat a Burris [;)]0 -
As long as you are comparing to the "Rifleman", The Nikon wins hands down!!! The Rifleman is Leupolds lowest quality scope. HAWKSHAW 0
