Horrific Plane Crash in Korea
181 passengers. 85 confirmed dead and by some miracle two were pulled from the inferno alive. They don't expect to find any of the others alive. I watched the video and landing gear was never deployed so a hard landing. No foam or fire trucks. Now they are also saying a bird strike.
As i understand it when pilot gets correct lights he drops landing gear that is gravity at that point not hydraulics. Why was there not a fly over tower to confirm landing gear deployed. Crossed my mind, maybe something happened to Pilot but then there is the Co-Pilot. Crash a big mystery at this point in time.
Prayers for all the passengers/crew and families waiting for them to land. ————-Ray

We need to wait for more info. Something major was wrong according to the video as well as the pilot forums I hang out in as well. It wasn't merely forgetting to put the landing gear down.
A gear up landing is pretty bad but the video I saw has the pilot touching down at the very end of a very long runway and hitting a huge dirt berm which probably made things almost unsurvivable vs a gear up landing.

When a non-pilot asks, "Why didn't he…" the answer is probably, "He couldn't."

report is bird strike, engines out landing high speed looks like the landing gear didn't deploy . 2 did survive. Pray for all especially the pilots who done the best they could with what they had.

That crash into that berm is horrific. I wonder what speed he was going when he crashed into the berm.

There were all kinds of weird things noticed in that crash. He was originally lined up for landing on runway 1, but instead landed the opposite way on 19, which would have been downwind. The gear was even partly extended, nor were the f-l-a-p-s. (typed that way due to the silly censor here) The right engine appears to be in thrust reverse at touchdown, but not the left one. There was a distinct "puff" of debris from the right engine filmed well before the landing.
Lastly, when they went off the end of the runway, they plowed through the instrument landing localizer antenna, which had a base of REINFORCED CONCRETE! There is NO reason for that kind of impassable barrier at the end of a runway. That's what caused the breakup and fire.

One of the passengers texted Goodbye to his wife, who was not on the plane. He said there was a bird stuck in the wing.
Rocky that berm looked mighty solid, I am not surprised that it is concrete. I agree there is no reason for that kind of barrier.

Have no idea why i was rated a "disagree" on this topic. Was only repeating what i herd/saw on late night news. I was just the messenger. Far be it, I am not even remotely versed on flight or airplane crashes and am deathly afraid of heights. Seems to me like Rocky knows what he is talking about.
Can it be that someone does not like my views on the Democratic Party? Anyway, at 81yrs my skin has grown to be pretty thick. Carry on☺️ ——————Ray

I can relay the "whats" that I noticed, but it will be up to the investigators to determine the "why" part. The data and voice recorders will be in good shape (they're located in the tail) and that will explain a lot.
If it was a bird that caused that puff of debris somebody filmed, it was a very large bird. Depending on exactly where it hit on the plane, that could cause major issues with hydraulics, controls, and electrical systems. That's as far as I'll speculate for now.

Disagree was removed. Thank you. Nothing but good folks here on the "Forum" ———Ray
