looks to me like who ever owned the barrel at one time or another was going to make a custom fit barrel. It can be saved if the bore is still good, but an end mill will be required.

Yes it can be done but having both the barrel hood and the locking lugs welded up make it more difficult. The hood must be fitted first and the length is the critical dimension, not the width. Good luck.

My money is on they took off too much and had to have more "metal" welded on. The hard part will be removing metal from the inner bit where the boolit enters. Can you chuck the barrel into a big enough drill to Bubba lathe?

The first thing that comes to mind, has the molecular structure of the metal been compromised from welding ?? If so, you have the potential for a mini hand grenade, considering many pounds of pressure on the hood when firing.

How would you determine the depth of lockup for the top lugs ?? And do you have the correct, safe sided file for removing metal enough for fit.

In addition, if the bottom barrel lug ‘feet’ are compromised they will shear off eventually from repeated force when firing.

I don’t want t be a ‘downer’ but I wouldn’t touch that for any amount of money. And I build custom 1911’s.

Here's an example of one gone bad.

I know what I would do with it. Paperweight.

Thanks to all with your advice, especially the safety issues with using this barrel with unknown history.

It is now relegated to the how not to do a job drawer.

    Happy New Year
