typing with one eye.....sort of long rant
got the corneal transplant the day after Christmas, had to be there 5:30 am, not much sleep christmas night. I have had bypass, both hips replaced, massive blood clots, cataracts and few broken bones but his scared me worse than any of the other surgeries. The thought of loosing my eyesight just scares the crap out of me.
well it is done now and am just waiting to get better, they said it went well and vision should be normal in 3-4 months. right now I can't see my hand in front of my face till it gets about 3-4 inches away. sorta hard to do things with the limited depth perception and even my "good" eye is not clear as it will need the surgery when and if this one turns out ok.
They want me on my back as much as possible looking straight up as they put an air bubble in my eye and when I look up it holds the new cornea in place to heal, even though they did stich it in place. they said the more I stayed back the better it would heal, but my back is KILLING me from laying around. the first 48 hours I could only get up 5-10 minutes an hour. My son got me a pair of glasses like you used to see in the comic books that have mirrors so you can see your feet when lying down. I can lean back in the recliner or bed and watch TV, even though its not clear it beats the boredom. I tried to read but it is a hassle having to use my reading glasses with the mirrored ones.
sorry for the long rant, just been bored to death the last few days, and my back is killing me. Did just run to the bank, though don't really know why now as I don't have any reason for cash but got few bucks just in case. Never hit anything but I doubt I will try that again for a few days, lucky there wasn't any traffic out this morning, but I think I even scared the dog this time as he ran back upstairs after he jumped out of the truck, he usually hangs around the garage as long as he can….. got a feeling when the wife finds out I am in real trouble but it beats being bored to death….. Hope you all had a nice Christmas and don't get to out of control for new years…

Doesn't sound like fun, but follow what the docs say and heal. It will take awhile, but better than the alternative.

Hang tight. Would now be a good time to beat you at golf???? LOL. Don't worry, you are in good hands. My dad lost his left eye at 19 and went on to be the champion target shooter in the SJ pistol league. He was not a candidate for a transplant. He is 83 and still going strong like a teenager. Be well my friend and keep us informed. Oakie

I was fearing something like that would happen to me but face down. A friend o' mines' friend had his retina dethatch and he had to lay face down for like a month. Same air bubble pushing up on his retina. At least you can mount the tv on the ceiling and I can't sleep on my face unless I get one of those "Massage Table".
