So what chambering is it again? Is it a 270 Winchester, or a 270 Winchester Short mag?

The Nikko is an excellent rifle made by the Nikko Japanese firm. Your rifle with scope has sold at another auction for $ 895 ( 338 Win Mag). They go from $ 700 to $ 900, trade in value is around $609, one sold for a low of$ 540 without scope. The blue book has no value information, just history on Nikko.

I have one in 7 Rem. Mag. As has been said, they are beautiful rifles. They were discontinued before the short magnum cartridges came out so your rifle is most likely .270 Win. which is a great cartridge in itself. It is a rear locking action and as such, is not a great action for reloading since cases stretch a bit with each firing. They were discontinued in 1980 with about 25,000 sold. I bought mine in 2000 at a live auction and paid $500 for it with a Redfield 2-7X scope on it. It was in used condition not as new like yours. I would not hesitate to give her $1000 for it and be proud to own and shoot it.

Please keep us advised as to what you do about the rifle. BTW: The info I got is from the following books: The Bolt Action, Volume II by Otteson, and Bolt Action Rifles, 4th Edition by de Hass, and, of course, the rifle I have in my hands.

They have beautiful stocks and are great shooting rifles. Never had any issue with the half dozen or so I have had.
IF you ever need a part you are on thin ice.
Would say that scope is period correct and would put about $800 value. IMO
