That is really hard to say as timber sales are bid by the 1,000 board feet and sales can be as large as 20,000,000 board feet or more. I have been on single jobs that lasted all year. And, once the log is cut at the mill, it is graded and the price of a board can vary by a large margin. That particular log was a Ponderosa pine16 foot long. Also, different species of trees are more valuable than others. Even the saw dust and bark is used in our co gen plant, producing electricity which runs the mill and sold to local power companies.

Not any mills left in this part of the country can process a log like that.

Regretably our Sierra Pacific Ind. mill here in Susanville, Ca. closed in 2004. They have since opened mills in more friendly states such as Idaho, Washington and Oregon. I retired in '09.

Round here you take a log over 24 inches in diameter, the mill will low grade it.
Too hard to handle I reckon.

We have both small log mills and large log mills. And they are strict about it.
