Years ago we started to do some GB transfers at the gun counter. During slow times I may have been guilty of looking on the site for stuff for me and just may have been guilty of perusing the forums on company time as well.
I retired in 2010 and still checked out the forums occasionally at home but never signed up until the big Forum change almost 6 years ago. So I actually lurked a LOT longer than I have been a member. Not sure why it took me so long unless it is my shy and reserved personality!😁 Bob

I was just looking for a site other than a regional site we have called Northeast Shooters. I checked out some other sites but they did not seem like they were very well moderated and things got very nasty sometimes.
Found this site and found it to be a lot better group of people posting..

For years I bought and sild and never had any problems on another gun auction site
I stumbled on a article about GB
a I had never heard of it and was conformable on the site I was using ( honest not sure if they are still on line I will guess, yes, but? )
Any way a started watching GB and reading g the forum page, but it still took me a couple of years to trust the site, so I bought and sold a few guns then later on
Got on the forum section after seeing how varied From mild to crazy the people were back then I knew I would fit in that was in the year 2000, I've been on board ever since
I did get one warning years ago for using a three letter word in a post that surprised me. I had no idea it was even considered bad, but oh well
This is the only internet site I use no other. After 24 + years I have grown ild with a lot of you
only using GB I don't feel like I am missing out

I too lurked on the Forum side for a lot longer than I have been a member, starting in the early 2000's. Even bought a magazine for a WWI 1911 I had in those days. But I didn't register for the Forum side until forced to by the big Forum change that didn't allow viewing for a while unless one was a member.

Helping a buddy put a new barrel on his Savage 110 and somehow he lost the ejector. We never did find another but I got hooked into reading the forums. It was pretty wild and wooly back then!

Mensa International disqualified me…

Back around 2000-01, I found the auction side and bought and sold a few muzzle loading rifles. Never knew that there even was a forum until I was bored one day and happened to scroll down to the bottom of the auction side front page. There, among all the very small printed GB miscellaneous offerings was this item, "Forums" which I discovered and followed for a while before joining.
It was just a happy accident! ☺️

You sound like my mom, but I'm not sure I heard the word 'happy'…

Yea, best remember her as she was. That ole’ girl probably has 4 kids, 3 teeth, and a thick pair of cankles by this point!
I’m glad the “NSFW” days are long gone. That stuff gave the forums a creepy vibe.6 -

I found Gunbroker in late 1999. My bride was in the middle of a cancer situation, we had two young boys at the time. Life was difficult and sleep did not come easy in those days. I discovered the talk boards late one night. trying to clear my head. I ended up reading the boards every night after everyone else was in bed. I lurked for about 6 months before actually posting myself.
I made my first purchase on GB in early 2000. The "Ban" was in place and I was buying and selling "High Cap" Magazines. I was more active buying and selling back then. Not so much now.

I bought a Sommer Und Ockenfuss "shorty" Marksman from here and I wanted to know more but I was basically talking to myself. Seems like there's only maybe 100 in the states or world wide? Maybe it'll be featured on Forgotten Weapons if someone will bring one for them to review. Maybe I'll have to one day. I think dude's in Arizona?

I was down on my back, literally. I existed on a futon mattress on our living room floor for a year and a half. One can only play so many games, watch so much TV, and see so many movies. I had sold some guns on GB to pay some bills during that time and stumbled across the forums. Much like William81 above, the members helped my mind. Those members from around that time late 99 early 2000's may have literally have saved my life. Living in constant excruciating pain for that long with no end in sight can lead a mind to dark places.
Thankfully, with the right very strong pain meds and ironically, the constant pinched nerves actually going dead, the pain lessened to a manageable level. Now, I have numb toes so I am clumsy, and take ~120 mg of opiates daily just to have something that resembles a normal life. It has cost me a job, and some legal trouble in the past, but at this point the alternative is thankfully a distant bad memory.

Got hooked on GB auction side many years ago. Never could get logged into forms side until they changed the log in format.

Looking for guns……….found GB…….then discovered the forum. Was much different back in 2003…….more fun and lively back then. Sad to say, I rarely check in now because of that.

I was selling on another site….It didn't offer auctions, my brother in law was telling me we should be using GunBroker. We were both working in my fathers (last of five he had over the years) gun store. I loved it, the minute we made the switch it was much better than the other place I had been using. We went through an aggressive ATF audit around that same time. It seemed that the plan was to shut down as many FFLs as possible with small, insignificant errors. I was so frustrated that I came over and made a post about what was going on over on the forums. I soon became almost addicted to checking in on what was going on over here.
