Dating back to the time Coronado was exploring the SW. Funny all the things I learned back in grammar school made these guys out to be famous hero's. In reality, they were pretty bad for all the native peoples.

I’ve ridden mules in the San Rafael Swell country in southern Utah on and in the area of the old Spanish trail and always thought it would be cool to find something from the Spaniards tucked away in a hide hole.

Local historical rumor has it that Coronado looted so much gold and other material from the natives that before he headed eastward to Kansas, he hid a lot of it in a cave or depression in a steep ridge along the south side of the Cache La Poudre River in northern Colorado. In the early 20th century, two men spent most of 35 years searching for it. No gold was found, but they did find some small Spanish items and a Spanish breast plate.

Finding hidden treasure has been a lifelong fantasy of mine. Probably from reading a lot of books about pirates and such in my younger days.
Fast track to modern time, it seems whenever someone does strike it big, they usually end up in court having to fight against 2–3-hundred-year-back claimants. Most have lost everything they found and a few are even put into prison for trying to keep it!
If I ever did find a hidden treasure, my lips would be sewn shut and would not tell a single soul!
